The minimum age for managing a personal Google Account independently depends on the country. Do not assume that one age applies worldwide, or that meeting the general account requirement automatically makes every Google service available.
Find the applicable account rule
- Open Google’s official age-requirements page.
- Look for the country relevant to the account.
- Read the default rule as well as the country exceptions.
- Check separately whether the account is managed through a school or organization.
The page currently lists 13 as the default minimum for countries without a listed exception, while several countries have higher thresholds. Use the live country list rather than an age quoted in a forum or an article for another country.
For a child below the applicable age
Google provides supervised-account options through Family Link. A parent should use the supported child-account flow instead of entering an invented birthday to make the child appear older.
Supervision affects the account’s available features and management. It is not equivalent to an adult simply sharing a password with a child. Before changing an existing account, read the choices Google presents for that account and preserve access to any important data.
Account age and service age are different
Some products, purchases, content, or features have their own age restrictions. For example, the ability to sign in to Gmail does not establish eligibility for an age-restricted video or an advertising account.
Google also notes that its general country-based requirements may not apply in the same way to Workspace accounts, including education domains. A school administrator is the appropriate contact for a school-provisioned identity; changing a consumer account’s birthday is not a substitute for the school’s policies.
If Google flags an existing account
Read the notice inside the signed-in account and follow its deadline. Google describes a limited period to bring an account into compliance before it may be disabled. The correct route can involve proving that the birthday is accurate or setting up appropriate supervision.
Do not submit a false birth date to avoid the notice. If you are asked for identity or payment information, first verify that you reached the process through Google’s official account pages. Keep those documents out of email replies, public support threads, and third-party recovery websites.
