Why Gmail Puts Your Own Test Message in Spam

2026年10月30日 by wisechecker

If a test message apparently from your own address lands in Gmail Spam, first confirm how it was sent. A message composed in Gmail, a website form using your address in From, and a forged message from an attacker are different cases. The displayed name Me is not proof that Gmail sent it.

Identify the actual sending route

  1. Compare the message with the test you intentionally sent, including its time and content.
  2. Check Sent mail where appropriate.
  3. Open sender details and inspect authentication.
  4. Use Show original if an administrator needs the sending route and authentication results.

An external website can place your Gmail address in From without being authorized to send as Gmail. Google also documents that spammers can forge your address, causing apparent self-mail or unrelated bounce messages.

Check whether Gmail identifies an unconfirmed sender, spoofing, a blocked address, or another reason. Review whether you accidentally blocked your own address or created a rule affecting the test.

For tests sent through a managed domain or mail service, ask its administrator to inspect SPF, DKIM, alignment, and the service’s approved sending configuration. Google’s sender requirements apply to delivery practices; using a Gmail address as a cosmetic From value does not satisfy them.

Correct the test without weakening protections

If the message is genuinely yours and harmless, use a carefully verified Not spam correction where appropriate. Then send one controlled new test through the intended supported route and inspect its result.

Do not create a broad rule trusting everything that claims to come from your own address. That can make forged mail harder to notice. Do not turn off domain protections or use an unknown relay to force a successful inbox result.

A successful self-test also does not guarantee delivery to every other recipient. Different receiving systems and policies can classify mail differently. Keep the test route, recipient, and observed result explicit, and investigate actual recipient failures using their delivery evidence.
