Some Google Meet meetings let a participant use a telephone for audio while keeping the computer connection for video and presentation. This can help when computer audio is unreliable. Availability depends on the meeting’s Workspace setup, administrator controls, location, and the particular telephone option offered.
Inspect the offered telephone route
In an eligible meeting, open More and look for Use a phone for audio. The green room can also offer a phone-audio joining option. Google’s phone-audio guidance lists Workspace and same-domain requirements for its integrated tools. External invitation-based dial-in has separate admission conditions. Distinguish having Meet call your number from dialing the invitation yourself, and use only the route your organizer actually provides.
Follow the displayed connection steps
For an offered callback, enter the intended phone number, request the call, and follow its confirmation prompt. For dial-in, use the number and PIN displayed for this meeting. Confirm supported countries and any charges before calling. Keep the computer’s audio arrangement consistent with using the phone so an additional microphone or speaker does not introduce echo.
Understand how to disconnect
Google explains that hanging up the phone can leave the computer in the meeting, muted. Closing a laptop or its meeting tab can also leave the telephone connected while video is disabled. Check both connections when leaving a confidential session rather than assuming one action ends everything. If the option is unavailable, ask the organizer for an approved alternative instead of calling a number copied from an unrelated invitation. Verify that the other participants hear you through the intended phone route before relying on it for the conversation.
