Choose comparison method
Check differences at the line level, including spaces and character types.
When ignoring line breaks, checking at the word or character level makes it easier to narrow down the changes.
Set notation-variation dictionary and display range
Enter your documents. Content is not sent to any server.
comparison result
Red indicates deletions, green indicates additions, and blue underlines indicate text treated as identical based on settings.
Variant spelling list
Lists alternate spellings using the built-in dictionary, your custom entries, Unicode width forms, and letter case.

What this text comparison tool can do
Compare two versions by line, word, or character and review insertions, deletions, and unchanged text side by side. The comparison stays in your browser.
Three comparison units
Use lines for structural edits, words for rewriting, and characters for exact numbers and punctuation.
Synchronized review
Keep both versions aligned while navigating long changes.
Controlled ignore options
Optionally ignore spaces, line breaks, case, or Unicode width forms.
Export only the differences
Save CSV or HTML, or print a review copy.
How to compare document changes
- choose use caseChoose the closest match from contracts, rules and regulations, meeting minutes, email, or strict comparison.
- Enter before and after versionsPaste text or load a text file such as TXT, Markdown, CSV, HTML, JSON, or XML.
- Review differences to ignoreIf you need to check numbers, clause numbers, and punctuation, make sure no unwanted ignore settings are enabled.
- Read comparison resultsReview the before and after for each diff block, and also check the list of orthographic variants.
- Keep in required formatSave only the differences as CSV, HTML, copy, or print.
Word and PDF files, as they are, contain information such as formatting and tracked changes. This page is a tool for comparing plain text. For Word documents, copy the body text to be compared; for PDFs, if the text can be selected, copy the body text and use it.
Choose line, word, or character comparison
| Unit | Best for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Line | Paragraphs, lists, configuration files | A small edit marks the whole line as changed. |
| Word | Prose, emails, policies | Hyphenation and punctuation affect segmentation. |
| Character | IDs, amounts, dates, code fragments | Long text requires more processing. |
Use ignore options without hiding important changes
Ignoring spaces or line breaks helps when wrapping changed but meaning did not. Ignoring case is useful for identifiers only when capitalization is not significant. Unicode width matching treats compatibility forms such as full-width ASCII as equivalent.
For contracts, code, account numbers, and product names, run a strict comparison as the final check. “No differences” means equality under the selected options, not necessarily byte-for-byte identity.
Useful presets for common documents
| Preset | Suggested unit | Review focus |
|---|---|---|
| Contract | Line, then character | Amounts, dates, obligations, exceptions |
| Policy | Line and word | Conditions, scope, definitions |
| Minutes | Word | Decisions, owners, deadlines |
| Word | Requests, dates, attachments, links |
How to use the spelling-variant list
The list highlights terms that appear in multiple forms, including custom pairs you define. It can help spot inconsistent capitalization, spacing, abbreviations, and terminology.
A candidate is not automatically an error. Confirm brand names, proper nouns, and the organization’s style guide before changing text.
Export differences as CSV, HTML, or print
CSV
Includes change type, positions, and before/after text with UTF-8 BOM for spreadsheet compatibility.
HTML
Creates a portable visual report for review in a browser.
Use the print view for a paper or PDF review copy.
Checkpoints by use case
contract
Prioritize checking changes to contract term, amounts, payment conditions, termination conditions, damages, confidentiality, governing law, court of jurisdiction, and party names. The absence of differences does not mean there are no legal issues. After comparison, also check the original pages, attachments, figures and tables, and signature blocks, and consult a professional as needed.
Internal rules and regulations
Check changes to effective date, revision date, target audience, application route, approver, retention period, and exception conditions. To distinguish cases where only clause numbers have moved from cases where the clause content has changed, it is easier to first review line-by-line, then review changed lines character-by-character.
minutes
Check attendees, decisions, action items, responsible persons, deadlines, and numerical values. If differences increase due to formatting of spoken language, use the meeting-minutes preset, and even then, re-verify character-by-character that important numbers have not changed.
If differences increase due to quotation marks, line wrapping, or signature variations, use the email preset. Information outside the body, such as send date/time, recipients, and attachment file names, is compared only within the scope pasted into this tool.
On-device processing and usage limits
Comparison is executed within the page and a dedicated in-browser processing area. There is no communication process that searches, saves, or externally evaluates the input content. When the page is closed, the input content and comparison results do not remain. If you save CSV or HTML, the file is created in the save location on the device you specify.
- Word track changes, comments, footnotes, shapes, headers, footers, and formatting are not compared.
- Text copied from PDF columns or tables may have altered reading order or line breaks.
- This tool does not have OCR for image-based documents or scanned PDFs.
- Word segmentation uses the browser’s locale-aware segmentation, not a proofreading dictionary or morphological analysis.
- Notation-variation candidates do not judge contextual correctness.
- Comparison results do not replace final review by legal, editorial, or quality assurance teams.
FAQ for text comparison and notation-variation checking
Are the contracts and internal documents I enter sent to a server?
Nothing is sent. Comparison, variant detection, and CSV/HTML generation are all done in your browser. There is also no feature to save your input documents.
Can I compare Word or PDF files directly?
Direct comparison is not possible. Copy the text from Word or PDF and paste it in. Files that the browser can read as text, such as TXT, Markdown, CSV, HTML, JSON, and XML, can be loaded.
Which comparison unit should I choose?
As a guide, use line-level for overall document revisions, word-level for paraphrasing, and character-level for numbers, particles, and punctuation. For important documents, check with multiple units.
What does ignoring Unicode width forms change?
It treats compatibility width forms such as full-width ASCII and full-width spaces as equivalent. It does not apply every possible Unicode compatibility conversion.
If it shows “No differences,” are the documents identical?
Within the currently selected ignore settings, the texts are identical. If whitespace or line breaks are being ignored, the original strings may not match exactly. Please also verify with strict comparison.
Can I add words that don’t appear in the notation-variation list?
You can add them. Open “Set orthographic variant dictionary and display range” and enter the reference candidate and alternate spellings separated by vertical bars.
CSV opened in Excel includes line breaks
Line breaks within a diff are preserved as information and output enclosed in quotes. It is normal for them to appear as line breaks within a single cell in Excel.
Can I compare on a smartphone?
It works. On a smartphone, the input fields and results are arranged in a single column. Long contracts and character-level comparisons are processing-intensive, so we recommend using a PC.
