Stop Publishing a Google Slides Presentation

Stop publishing removes the published web route for a Google Slides presentation. It is different from removing collaborators from the original file or deleting an embed block from one website. Use it when the deck should no longer be served through its publication link.

Identify the published presentation

Open the correct deck on a computer and confirm its title and publication URL. If several versions exist, inspect the one used by the actual audience link or website embed. Stopping the wrong file’s publication does not address the route that viewers are using.

Stop the publication

Choose File > Share > Publish to web. Open Published content & settings and choose Stop publishing. Read any confirmation and complete the action for the intended file.

Review collaborator sharing separately if those permissions also need a change. Google’s publication guidance distinguishes stopping publication from stopping ordinary file sharing.

Verify the affected routes

Open the previously distributed publication URL through a representative viewer context and check that it no longer serves the presentation as before. Inspect websites containing the embed as well. Remove or replace outdated audience instructions on pages you are authorized to edit. Do not claim that stopping publication retrieves screenshots, downloaded files, or copies already saved by other people. The result should be described narrowly: the identified web publication route has been stopped and checked. Other distribution artifacts and normal file permissions remain separate matters requiring their own review when relevant. Record the verified publication URL and the time of the check.
