Sharing an entire screen in Google Meet exposes a broader working area than sharing one tab or application window. Use it when the audience genuinely needs movement between applications. Prepare the chosen display so notifications, unrelated documents, and the meeting window do not become part of the demonstration.
Prepare the display you will share
Move confidential windows away from the intended display and close unnecessary material. Use your normal notification controls if alerts might reveal private information. Check the desktop, taskbar previews, and visible file names. If multiple monitors are connected, place the demonstration content on the intended one and read the display previews carefully in the picker.
Start the selected screen share
After joining, click Present now and select Your entire screen. Choose the correct screen preview. Inspect any Also share system audio toggle before clicking Share; enable it only if the task requires computer sound and the platform supports it. Google’s screen-sharing guidance lists macOS 14.2, Windows 11, or newer for this audio capability.
Monitor the boundary while presenting
Ask someone to confirm the intended display appears. Google recommends moving presentation content to another monitor when possible if you must share the full screen, helping avoid a mirror of the meeting itself. Remember that switching applications on the shared display can expose the new window too. Stop presenting before opening unrelated content, then verify Meet no longer shows an active presentation. If the task later needs only one document, switch to a tab or window share. A clean desktop at the start is useful, but it does not replace checking each new item you bring onto the shared display.
