Private event visibility in Google Calendar limits details according to the calendar’s current permission model. It is useful for an appointment whose subject should not appear to ordinary viewers. It does not make the event inaccessible to every manager, invited guest, or administrator.
Change the event visibility
On a computer, open the event, choose Edit event, and locate the visibility control. Select Private and save. Confirm the event’s date and calendar so a similar meeting elsewhere is not changed accidentally.
Review who retains access
Google’s current guidance says stronger detail-editing and sharing-management permissions can still reveal private event details. Work or school administrators can have special access as well. Busy blocks and limited metadata may remain visible through scheduling and resource contexts.
For a recurring event, privacy has a series-wide scope. The official help says changing an instance’s visibility applies to the whole series, so do not assume it creates one private exception.
Verify realistic confidentiality
Inspect the saved setting and review the calendar’s actual sharing grants. Keep unnecessary sensitive material out of the title, description, and attachments rather than relying only on a label. If guests or a room are involved, review those audience paths separately. A privacy change does not withdraw older invitation messages, exported files, or information already copied by recipients. The completed review should establish the documented visibility for the intended viewers while clearly acknowledging stronger roles and the other places where meeting information may already exist. Review sensitive descriptions before saving.
