Set an Event’s Start, End, and Duration in Google Calendar

An event’s start and end determine the time it occupies in Google Calendar. Check them explicitly when a default duration is unsuitable. A short-looking grid block or a familiar title is not enough to establish the intended length of an appointment.

Review the date and time fields

Open the event on a computer and use Edit event, or create a new event. Enter the intended start and end dates and times. Google’s creation guidance describes both the event editor and dragging a longer period on the calendar grid.

Separate duration from defaults

Calendar’s general Event settings can determine the default length used for new events. That preference is different from verifying a particular meeting. Inspect the individual fields when an appointment crosses noon, midnight, or another day.

Check the time zone when the source schedule belongs to another region. An end that appears earlier than the start may reflect a date or zone mistake rather than a need to turn the meeting into an all-day event.

Verify the saved interval

Save the change and reopen the event. Compare both endpoints with the confirmed schedule, including AM or PM where the chosen display uses them. Review any guest-update prompt deliberately and check the effect on room availability or media arrangements. For a recurring meeting, inspect the update scope before applying the change. A correct duration for one occurrence does not establish the intended pattern for the whole series, and changing the interval can create a new conflict even when the original booking was available.
