Google Meet emoji reactions provide quick feedback without adding a spoken interruption. Use them for acknowledgement or a brief response, while keeping important decisions and questions in a channel the meeting can review. Reactions are temporary signals, so an emoji alone may not communicate a precise answer.
Open and send a reaction
During the meeting, select Send a reaction in the bottom controls. Choose the intended emoji from the panel. Google says a sent reaction may appear as a temporary badge on your tile and move upward from the screen’s bottom left. Close the panel with the same control when you are finished selecting.
Check available emoji choices
If More emojis appears, it opens a wider set for eligible editions. An administrator or host can disable the extended set independently of ordinary reactions. Some emojis support a skin-tone choice; hover over an eligible reaction or inspect the extended emoji’s variant control before sending. Confirm your selection rather than repeatedly clicking different emojis to discover how they look to everyone else.
Recognize unavailable or unexpected reactions
When administrators or hosts disable reactions, Google says the icon can remain visible but unclickable with an explanatory message. Reactions are also unavailable in client-side encrypted meetings. Do not treat that state as a microphone or camera failure. On Apple devices, operating-system video effects can generate gesture-based reactions separately from Meet’s reaction button. If an unintended effect appears, inspect the device’s Video Effects settings rather than assuming a participant clicked an emoji. For a vote or formal approval, use the meeting’s agreed recording method so temporary reactions are not mistaken for a complete, durable decision record.
