Google Meet’s chat can distribute a useful link while the conversation continues. Before sending, check the address, intended audience, and file permissions. Chat delivery and permission to open the destination are separate: a visible URL does not automatically grant access to a restricted document.
Open the meeting chat
On a computer in the meeting, click Chat at the bottom right. Paste the trusted link and add a brief description so participants can identify its purpose. Check that the address belongs to the intended document or page rather than a private editing session, unrelated account, or similarly titled item. Select Send when the message is ready.
Confirm audience and access
Meet chat is shared communication, not a private message to the person whose tile you are watching. With continuous meeting chat, invited internal guests may see messages even when they are not currently in the call. Avoid credentials, private access tokens, or information intended for only one recipient. Ask an intended participant to confirm the link opens with the appropriate access, then resolve any permission request through the file’s normal sharing process.
Plan for different chat availability
Eligible continuous meeting chats can persist in Google Chat, while external guests and other limited participants may have access only during their meeting connection. In a meeting without continuous chat, messages disappear after leaving, subject to the documented pinned-message exception during the call. If the link must remain available, place it in an agreed permitted location rather than assuming everyone can retrieve the chat later. When presenting a supported Docs, Sheets, or Slides file, inspect any Share in Meet chat suggestion carefully because it can also involve file access and attaching the file to the Calendar event.
