Return to Today or Jump to Another Date in Google Calendar

Google Calendar’s date controls let you move through a schedule without changing any events. Use them to inspect a past meeting or future deadline, then return to the current day. Confusing navigation with event movement can accidentally reschedule an appointment that only needed to be viewed.

Navigate to the required period

On a computer, use the arrows near the top left to move to another date range. Google’s viewing guidance also describes selecting a date in the small calendar at the top left. Check the year as well as the month when looking far ahead or reviewing older records.

Return to the present

Click Today to return to the current date. When keyboard shortcuts are enabled, Google’s shortcut reference also lists T for the current day and G for going to a specific date. Use those only when focus is in the appropriate calendar context rather than inside an event’s text field.

Keep the selected view in mind: returning to today may show a day, week, or broader range depending on the working view.

Confirm the destination

Read the displayed date heading and open a known event when necessary. Check time-zone settings if the meaning of “today” differs during travel or across midnight. If an expected event is absent, inspect the enabled calendars and use search before concluding that it was deleted. Navigation establishes which period you are viewing; it does not verify that every subscribed calendar, pending invitation, or mobile device has the same current data.
