Keyboard shortcuts can make common Google Meet actions easier to reach, especially when a pointer is difficult to use. Learn a few controls in a practice meeting first. The correct shortcut depends on your operating system, and a screen reader or another application may intercept a key combination.
Start with microphone and camera controls
On Windows or ChromeOS, use Ctrl + D to mute or unmute the microphone and Ctrl + E to turn the camera on or off. On macOS, use Command + D and Command + E. Check the control’s resulting state after each action. Avoid testing an unfamiliar unmute shortcut during a confidential conversation happening nearby.
Open panels and the shortcut list
For the People panel, Google’s screen-reader instructions list Ctrl + Alt + P on Windows or ChromeOS and Control + Command + P on macOS. Chat uses the same modifier keys with C. The shortcut dialog uses Ctrl + / on Windows or ChromeOS and Control + Command + / on macOS. Inspect that list for additional commands rather than guessing browser shortcuts.
Handle focus and conflicting commands
Meet provides equivalent interface buttons for these shortcuts. If a command does not work, use keyboard navigation to reach the labeled control and inspect whether a dialog or another application has focus. Google’s accessibility guidance warns that push-to-talk with the Spacebar can conflict with Windows screen-reader behavior. Test that feature with your actual assistive setup before depending on it. Close an unwanted Meet dialog with its Close button or Escape, then confirm focus and audio state before continuing.
