A running Google Meet breakout session can be reorganized without ending the entire meeting. Moving someone requires both a host assignment change and the participant accepting the new room. Tell the person why they are moving before interrupting their discussion.
Edit the active room arrangement
As the host on a computer, open the breakout-room panel and choose Edit rooms. Find the correct participant, then move their name into the intended room by dragging it or entering it there. Review the source and destination groups before saving. If several attendees share a display name, confirm the identity through the agreed communication route instead of moving a guess.
Save and wait for acceptance
Click Save after making the changes. Google says participants must select Join before moving to a different room. The participant’s new prompt is therefore part of the handoff, not an optional confirmation you can assume they saw. Ask them to accept it and confirm they can hear the new group. Telephone participants use *2 for breakout moves and returning to the main room.
Check the practical consequences
Make sure the room they left still has the people needed for its task and that the destination group knows why someone arrived. A host joining a breakout room cannot see chat exchanged before entering or after leaving, so ask for a brief spoken catch-up when context matters. If the participant needs co-host privileges instead of a simple room move, bring them to the main room for that appointment. Check the actual room connection after a reassignment rather than treating a changed name in the editing panel as proof that the person has moved successfully.
