How to Restore Deleted Google Contacts or Undo Recent Changes

2026年10月29日 by wisechecker

Google Contacts offers both Trash recovery and an account-wide Undo changes feature. Choose the narrower recovery when possible, because rolling the whole list back can also remove legitimate recent additions from the current view.

Recover an ordinary deleted contact from Trash

On a computer, open Google Contacts in the correct account and choose Trash. Contacts ordinarily remain there for 30 days before permanent deletion. Select the intended entry and choose Recover.

Check the restored card’s email addresses and phone numbers. Contacts permanently deleted from Trash cannot be recovered through this feature. Google also notes that entries deleted from Other contacts do not appear in Trash.

Use Undo changes with a backup

For a mistaken bulk edit, merge, or deleted Other contacts entry, inspect Settings, Undo changes. Google allows you to undo all contact changes within the past 30 days by selecting a time and confirming.

This is not a selective undo for one card. If you restore the list to last week, contacts added since then will not appear in that restored view. Export the current list first so legitimate newer information can be reviewed and re-added later.

Confirm which system actually lost the contact

If the contact is present on the Google Contacts website but absent on a phone, investigate the phone’s account filter and synchronization. Restoring the cloud list repeatedly will not fix a hidden account or a separate local contact store.

If the record exists only in an older export, plan a small import rather than replacing the entire current list. Do not promise recovery beyond Google’s stated windows or after permanent deletion. For work contacts, distinguish personal cards from directory records managed by the organization. Keep the export secure, document the recovery time you selected, and verify a fresh Gmail draft uses the intended restored address before sending anything important.
