A Gemini answer in Gmail can combine information from several messages or files. Checking Sources helps you see where the response came from, but a citation is a starting point for verification rather than a guarantee that every sentence is correct.
Open the supporting material
Look for source links or the Sources control associated with the response. Open the cited email or file and check its sender or owner, date, and relevant passage. For Gmail Live, links and the Sources card can show cited emails; opening one ends that Live session.
Match the cited material to the specific claim. An email mentioning a payment is not necessarily evidence of payment completion. A message proposing a date is not necessarily evidence that everyone accepted it.
Check completeness and later corrections
Read enough surrounding context to identify conditions, exceptions, quoted replies, and changes. A correct quotation from an older message can support an outdated conclusion if the sender later revised it.
Review the selected source locations when the answer uses unexpected information. Google’s source controls can prioritize specified files and retain context from earlier turns. If you need a different evidence boundary, start a new conversation and select the intended sources.
Record what you actually verified
For an important answer, retain the identifiable source message and the fact you checked. If a claim lacks a supporting passage, treat it as unverified and ask a narrower question or consult the original sender.
A missing source link does not prove that the answer is false, but it limits what you can establish from the response alone. Do not broaden confidential file access merely to make a citation resolve. For inaccurate or unsafe answers, use feedback without unnecessarily submitting private emails, attachments, or unrelated search results.
