Google Sheets Text Is Cut Off: Check Wrapping, Row Height, and Neighboring Cells

Text that stops at the cell boundary may still be stored in full. Check the cell’s contents before assuming Sheets lost part of your entry.

Confirm that the content exists

Select the cell and inspect the formula bar, or enter cell-editing mode. If the missing words are visible there, this is a presentation problem rather than a recovery problem.

Check adjacent cells too. Text that previously extended into an empty neighbor can appear cut off after someone enters data there. Clearing a neighbor just to expose the text can delete a legitimate value, so prefer an appropriate display setting.

Choose wrapping and dimensions

Select the affected cells and use the text-wrapping controls. Wrap displays the content across lines within the cell; clipping keeps the display within the available space. Choose the behavior that suits the sheet’s purpose.

Resize the column or row as needed. Right-click a row number or column letter, choose its resize command, and use Fit to data or an explicit size. A manually constrained row height can hide wrapped lines even after wrapping is enabled.

Verify the intended reading view

Inspect a long entry and a short one at ordinary zoom. Check merged cells separately, since their layout can make resizing and later data operations more awkward. Avoid merging a whole data table as a general repair.

Then check printing or the destination where the sheet will be consumed. A readable desktop grid does not guarantee a readable PDF. If the formula bar also lacks the expected text, investigate the source entry or version history instead; additional width cannot recover content that was never saved in the cell.
