A Google Password Manager PIN helps protect and recover encrypted passkeys. It is not the same as your Google Account password, a website password, or every device’s screen-lock code. Identify which prompt you are seeing before repeatedly entering the wrong secret.
Check the prompt and account
Use the legitimate Chrome or Google Password Manager interface and confirm the selected account. Google’s current guide describes PIN creation when a passkey is first created on a computer, iPhone, or iPad. The recovery experience can differ when the first passkey was created on Android.
A website asking for its own password and Password Manager asking to unlock a passkey are different stages. Do not send either value to support or type it into a page reached through an unexpected message.
Use an already trusted device if you forgot the PIN
Google’s documented reset route uses a non-Android device on which you previously used Google Password Manager passkeys. In Chrome, open Google Password Manager, Settings, and Change Google Password Manager PIN, then complete the required authentication.
If the option is absent, check whether you used passkeys on that device, chose a different Google Account, or removed passkey access. A missing button is not proof that changing your Google Account password will repair the PIN.
Understand destructive recovery before proceeding
The guide also describes resetting passkeys when recovery is impossible, but that deletes the stored passkeys and requires setting up replacements for the relevant sites. It should not be treated as a routine first test.
Before any destructive action, verify that you retain another legitimate sign-in and recovery method for the affected services. Keep a working trusted device intact while checking options. A successful PIN change concerns Password Manager access; it does not itself change every website’s password or prove that a lost site’s account has been recovered.
