If Chat or Meet is missing from Gmail, check Gmail’s integrated-view choices and the account’s service access. A hidden navigation item is different from a meeting failing to connect or an administrator disabling the service.
Review Gmail’s display choices
On a computer, open Gmail’s Settings, See all settings, and Chat and Meet. Google’s Chat guidance uses the Google Chat or Off choice followed by Save Changes.
For Meet, Google’s current desktop instructions use Quick settings, Chat and Meet, Customize, then the Google Meet checkbox and Done. Controls can change with the Gmail version, so inspect the available customization rather than assuming an old left-sidebar layout.
Check account type and permissions
For work or school accounts, the organization determines whether the services are available. An authorized administrator can inspect the effective service status for the user’s organizational unit or access group.
Also check whether you opened a delegated mailbox. Google’s ordinary delegation guide excludes Chat and Meet integrations from delegated access. A control present in your own mailbox can therefore be absent in the delegated one without any installation failure.
Test the relevant function separately
If the navigation returns, open the intended Chat or Meet feature and verify the correct account. A visible Meet button does not establish camera, microphone, device compatibility, or meeting-entry permission. Check those only if joining actually fails.
If the service works in its standalone supported application but is hidden only in Gmail, record that distinction for support. Do not enable camera and microphone access for unrelated websites or bypass a work policy to repair a missing menu item. Keep changes limited to the intended integrated view and service. After saving, verify the display in the relevant account without altering another user’s preferences or the organization’s broader communication policy.
