A Never send it to Spam filter can help with a verified sender’s legitimate mail, but it is not a universal delivery guarantee or a security verdict. If messages remain missing, check blocking, other rules, delivery rejection, and organization policy instead of broadening the exception blindly.
Verify the sender and the exact match
Inspect a real message’s full From address and authentication details. Test the filter’s search against that example. A display name or a partial company-domain term can be broader than the identity you intended to trust.
For legitimate mail already in Spam, read Gmail’s explanation before using Not spam. If the sender is blocked, review Filters and blocked addresses: Google notes that blocked senders still go to Spam even after an individual message is removed from Spam.
Check other paths that can hide mail
- Search across the account, including Spam and Trash when needed.
- Review rules with Delete it or Skip the Inbox.
- Inspect authorized forwarding and connected clients.
- Ask the sender about bounce messages if the email never arrived.
A spam exception cannot recover permanently deleted mail, create a message the server never accepted, or reverse every other action performed by a client. Work or school administrators can also impose policies outside the user’s filter controls.
Keep the exception narrow and monitored
If an exception is appropriate, limit it to the verified sender and review later deliveries. Passing authentication does not guarantee that every request is safe; a compromised sender or authenticated lookalike domain can still be dangerous.
Do not disable browser protections, account verification, or organizational safeguards to force delivery. Ask the verified sender to repair authentication and sending practices when those are the underlying problem. An exception should not replace that repair.
Test a harmless new message and record its actual location. If the issue persists, provide support with the sender, intended recipient, time, and redacted delivery evidence. Avoid claiming that one filter setting overrides all of Gmail’s security, routing, storage, and administrative controls.
