Gmail’s AI Summary Misses a Decision or Attachment: Check the Source Messages

2026年11月4日 by wisechecker

A Gmail AI summary can omit a decision, misunderstand a qualification, or fail to include information contained in an attachment. Absence from the summary does not establish absence from the conversation.

Find the latest authoritative message

Read the relevant replies in date order. Compare proposals, corrections, approvals, and final instructions. A useful check is to identify the sender, date, and exact message supporting each important conclusion. A late reply can reverse an earlier decision without repeating all the surrounding background.

If the conversation includes several participants, determine who had authority to approve the change. An AI-generated sentence saying the team agreed is not a substitute for that evidence.

Inspect attachments and source coverage separately

Open the original attachment through your normal approved workflow. Check its version, filename, and relevant section. Do not assume that the summary read every attached file, every page, or every piece of image text.

Where Gemini provides citations or a Sources list, inspect which messages and files actually contributed. Access restrictions, unsupported content, or security filtering can affect what is used. Google may exclude suspicious content or block a response when it detects malicious instructions.

Use a narrower question to check an omission

If the tool supports it, ask about the specific decision and request the supporting message. Then compare the answer with the original. A more confident second answer is not evidence by itself; verification still depends on the source.

Correct your own notes or reminder if the summary led to a mistaken deadline. Report the inaccurate suggestion without exposing confidential attachments in feedback. For a missing source you cannot access, ask the authorized owner for the relevant information rather than broadening sharing permissions just to improve an AI summary.
