Receiving a Google Group message does not guarantee that an ordinary Reply goes back to the group. The group’s reply configuration and the message’s reply destination determine where Gmail addresses the response.
Inspect the draft’s actual recipients
Before sending, expand To and Cc and read the complete addresses. If Reply targets the original author, the group may not receive it. Reply all may include the group, but it can also include other people, so do not choose it automatically for confidential content.
Where needed, inspect the message’s expanded details or full headers to establish the Reply-To value. Keep headers private because they can contain addresses and routing information.
Ask the group owner about Post replies to
Google Groups owners and managers can open Group settings, Email options, and review Post replies to. Google says this setting determines the default reply destination and populates the recipient field when someone replies by email.
Do not change it merely to make one user’s workflow convenient without considering the whole group. A group intended for private replies to an author may deliberately avoid sending every response to all members.
Check posting permission if the address is correct
If the draft includes the correct group address but the response still does not appear, keep the rejection or delivery notice. The sender’s posting permission, moderation, or the group’s acceptance rules may be the next issue.
Test with harmless content and an authorized account. Do not resend a sensitive reply to a wider list just to check delivery. If a default needs correcting, record the previous group setting, obtain the appropriate authorization, and verify a new conversation. Editing a personal contact card does not change the reply policy embedded in group mail. Keep the distinction between wrong draft recipients and a correctly addressed message held by group policy.
