Several Gmail tabs showing the same conversation do not necessarily mean several copies of the message exist. First check how the tabs are opened: browser shortcuts, restored sessions, delegated-account access, and extensions can all create separate views.
Separate extra tabs from duplicate messages
Read the account address in each tab and compare the conversation. If both tabs display the same message in the same account, close the unnecessary view after checking for unsent work. Do not delete the message merely to remove a duplicate tab.
A delegated inbox normally opens in a new tab through Gmail’s account switcher. Personal and delegated accounts can therefore look similar while representing different mailboxes.
Check the action that opens another view
Repeat the behavior once with a simple click rather than a modified click or keyboard command. Browser modifiers can open links in new tabs or windows. Gmail also has commands for composing in a new tab and replying or forwarding in a new window.
If extra tabs appear only at browser startup, inspect the browser’s restored session or startup-page settings. If one click consistently creates several tabs, compare the mouse or keyboard behavior and any automation or Gmail extension involved.
Remove the cause without changing mail
Temporarily disable optional extensions that modify navigation, then test in a clean profile if needed. Restore extensions individually to identify the one responsible. Do not remove organization-managed components without approval.
Use Gmail’s account switcher to open a delegated mailbox rather than a saved direct delegated-inbox bookmark; Google notes that the access link can change. If the problem remains, record whether tabs appear on startup, on one click, or after a particular shortcut. That evidence distinguishes browser behavior from a real delivery-duplication issue, which should be investigated using the individual messages and their headers.
