Create a Repeating Task in Google Calendar

A repeating task in Google Calendar creates a recurring action rather than a series of guest invitations. Set the frequency and end condition deliberately. Google’s current guidance says shared tasks and subtasks cannot repeat, and recurring tasks cannot be moved to another task list.

Create the recurring action

On a computer, click an empty calendar space and choose Task. Enter the title, date, and relevant task list. Under the date, open Does not repeat and select a suitable preset frequency.

Review custom recurrence

Use Custom when the pattern needs another interval or an end date. Google’s guidance describes daily, weekly, monthly, and annual patterns with available end conditions. Check the first occurrence and any finite end rather than accepting an indefinite recurrence accidentally.

The current task help says recurring tasks cannot have an end time. Keep a recurring reminder separate from a nonrecurring timed work block if the desired configuration is not supported.

Verify the next occurrences

Save and inspect several dates. Google says only a limited number of upcoming instances appear on the Calendar grid at once, with more added automatically as time passes. An apparently empty distant month is not proof that recurrence stopped. Check the task’s actual rule before creating a duplicate series. If you stop a task series from repeating, Google’s guidance says you cannot re-enable repetition on that same stopped series; a new recurring series is needed. Keep that consequence in mind before changing the pattern. The completed setup should maintain one identifiable recurring action with the intended list and schedule, not several overlapping copies created to compensate for limited future display.
