Check Google Slides Text Contrast and Noncolor Cues

Contrast and explicit labels help a Google Slides audience read and interpret information. A pale caption or a color-only status can be difficult to understand even when the slide looks attractive in the editor. Review both visual separation and the words carrying the message.

Inspect real backgrounds

Check text against the actual color, image, or shape behind it. Include small captions, chart labels, links, and slide numbers, not only the title. Google’s accessibility guidance recommends strong contrast and points to contrast-checking tools for evaluating color combinations.

Add meaning beyond color

Use explicit status words, labels, patterns, or other appropriate cues when colors distinguish categories. A red and green comparison should remain understandable to a viewer who cannot distinguish those hues. Likewise, an important warning should be expressed in wording rather than only through bold or highlighting.

Use the text and fill color controls separately when correcting a problem. Changing a box’s background is not the same as changing its letters, and a new theme color can affect several slides.

Verify the audience version

Present representative slides on the intended display and inspect the exported or printed copy if one will be distributed. Use an appropriate contrast evaluation rather than claiming compliance from appearance alone. A clear color combination on one laptop does not prove a complete accessibility standard has been met. Combine readable typography, accurate labels, alternative text, and suitable media support so the presentation’s essential information does not depend on one visual cue or a spoken explanation that some viewers cannot access.
