Change Event Visibility in Google Calendar on iPhone or iPad

Event visibility in Google Calendar on iPhone or iPad interacts with calendar sharing and stronger management permissions. Review both before relying on a Private label. The setting changes an event’s visibility model; it does not erase previously shared invitations or files.

Find the event setting

In Google’s Calendar app, open the intended event and tap Edit. Select Visibility settings in the details when available. Google’s iOS event guidance says this control can be absent when the calendar is not shared.

Choose the appropriate visibility

Default follows the calendar’s normal grants. Public can expose this event’s details to people able to view the calendar even when ordinary calendar access is Free or Busy. It does not independently make a restricted calendar accessible to every internet visitor.

Private limits ordinary viewers but does not hide details from everyone with stronger detail-editing or sharing-management access. Guests and resources also have their own calendar contexts, where some metadata can remain visible.

Verify effective access and recurrence

Save and reopen the event, then inspect a representative permitted viewer context where appropriate. Google’s visibility guidance says recurring events have one visibility setting across the series. An attempted change for one instance or a subset applies to the whole series, so do not assume an ordinary edit-scope prompt overrides that rule. Review attachment sharing separately from calendar detail visibility. Keep organizational policies in the access review. The completed change should identify the correct event or series and its real audience, without promising that a single iOS label prevents every delegate, administrator, guest, or resource-calendar viewer from finding any related information.
