When several Google Accounts share the same browser session, the normal web menu may offer Sign out of all accounts rather than a separate logout button for each one. Removing a name from the sign-in chooser is a different action.
Use the options actually shown
Open a Google service and inspect the account menu. Google’s desktop Gmail instructions say to use Sign out of all accounts when multiple accounts are present. Before doing that, save work and confirm that you can sign back in with the accounts you still need.
After signing out, sign back in only to the accounts you want in that browser context. This is a predictable way to leave one account out without deleting it.
Why the chooser’s Remove control is different
Removing an account from the chooser stops it appearing as a remembered selection in that browser. It is not deletion of the Google Account and should not be used as evidence that every session on every device has ended.
Similarly, closing one Gmail tab does not reliably end the account’s browser session. Another Google tab may still have access.
For a lost or borrowed device
Use the account’s Security & sign-in → Manage all devices controls to inspect and sign out relevant sessions remotely. Google can list more than one session on a device, so review all applicable entries.
This security function is intended for controlling sessions on devices. Do not confuse it with a universal single-account logout button for every tab and app in a multi-account browser.
Separate frequent work into profiles
If you regularly need independent work and personal sessions, separate browser profiles can reduce the inconvenience of shared logout. Chrome profiles keep browsing information apart, but they are not locked against somebody else using the same computer.
Do not delete a profile merely to sign out: profile deletion also removes local browsing information. On phones and tablets, Gmail’s sign-out behavior is different again; removing an account from the device affects more than one Gmail tab. Follow the platform-specific instructions rather than applying the desktop procedure everywhere.
