Start and Stop an Internal Live Stream from Google Meet

An internal Google Meet live stream needs an authorized person to start it; scheduling a streamed event does not put it on air automatically. Use a computer and verify the broadcast state before telling viewers the event is live. Stopping your own meeting participation is also different from deliberately stopping the stream.

Confirm the operator and meeting setup

Join the intended meeting as a full participant using an authorized account in the organizer’s organization. Google requires administrator permission and an eligible streaming setup. A person watching through the viewer link cannot operate the broadcast. Confirm who is responsible for starting, stopping, and checking the audience view before the program begins.

Start the internal broadcast

Google’s current host instructions use Meeting tools, Live Streaming, then Stream internally. Select the language for captions and choose Start Streaming. Read any confirmation and check the live indication. Use Copy streaming link for the audience address. If the meeting has already started with continuous meeting chat enabled, Google says the live-stream option is unavailable.

Verify delivery and stop explicitly

Have an eligible viewer confirm that the intended program and audio are arriving. Do not judge the broadcast solely from the normal participant layout, because Meet manages the stream’s displayed content separately. At the end, use the streaming stop control and confirm the action. Google’s guidance says internal live streams have an eight-hour limit and stop automatically at that point. A recording is a separate action and is not created automatically by streaming. Check that the stream has ended before discussing off-air material or beginning a private follow-up conversation.
