You can review earlier Google Meet captions during the current meeting by scrolling through the caption area. This helps recover a recently missed phrase, but it is a limited history of your captioned participation. It is not a complete transcript of everything everyone said before you arrived.
Review the available caption history
On a computer, turn captions on and let the conversation produce some text. In the caption area, scroll upward to review earlier lines and downward to return toward newer speech. If you use eligible translated captions, Google documents the same ability to review previous translated text. Check speaker context before interpreting an isolated sentence from farther up the tray.
Understand which conversation is included
Google says captions display only for portions of the conversation when you were in the meeting and had captions enabled. Joining late or switching captions on halfway through does not generate the missing earlier discussion. If the point you need falls in that gap, ask for a recap or an available approved meeting document instead of searching the tray indefinitely.
Confirm important details while the meeting continues
Scrolling back can make it easier to miss the next topic. Tell the speaker if you need a pause to review an instruction, and return to current captions when ready. For a decision, date, or amount, ask someone to confirm the wording because automatic text can contain recognition errors. If later review is required, arrange an eligible transcript or other authorized record separately. Avoid promising colleagues that the caption tray will remain available after leaving or that it contains a recoverable permanent record of the session.
