An old Google Meet pin can keep a participant or presentation prominent after the discussion moves on. Unpin the item to let the selected meeting layout use that space again. First check whether you are adjusting a personal pin or a pin created for everyone by a host.
Remove a personal pin
Hover over the participant or presentation you pinned for your screen and choose Unpin. Inspect the resulting layout. If several items were pinned, remove the others you no longer need one at a time. Unpinning does not remove the participant from the call or stop their presentation; it changes how the content is arranged.
Recognize a host-created pin
Hosts and co-hosts can create moderated pins for other participants. Google’s documentation says participants can manually unpin content after a host pins it. A host removing the shared pin uses Unpin for everyone and confirms Unpin in the dialog. Read the action’s scope so a personal display adjustment does not become a meeting-wide change.
Check the layout after unpinning
If the screen still looks focused, open More and Change layout. Spotlight, Sidebar, Auto, and Tiled arrange content differently, and unpinning alone does not select a new layout. Choose the arrangement needed for the current task and confirm the important participant or document remains readable. Meet saves layout preferences, so an arrangement from a previous meeting can influence what you see now. Do not use Remove from the call as a display-management shortcut. If a participant leaves and rejoins, Google says hosts need to pin them again; a missing restored pin therefore does not necessarily indicate a connection or account fault.
