Add or Change a Notification for One Google Calendar Event

An individual Google Calendar event can use a different reminder from the calendar’s usual default. This is useful for a meeting that needs more preparation time or a different alert channel. Your reminder preferences are personal and should not be treated as instructions controlling every guest’s notifications.

Open the event reminder

On a computer, open the event and choose Edit event. Locate Notifications and inspect the existing reminder type and lead time. Check the actual event date and time before adjusting when the reminder should occur.

Set the intended alert

Choose the available notification or email route and set the lead time. Use Add notification for another required reminder, or the remove control for an unwanted one. Save the event after reviewing the complete reminder list.

Do not confuse a reminder before a meeting with an update email sent when its details change. They are different notification purposes and may use different controls.

Verify personal behavior

Reopen the event and confirm the saved reminder settings. Check the browser or device route that will deliver the notification, including its permissions. For a recurring event, review the scope of the change rather than assuming every occurrence was adjusted identically. Google’s current guidance says your account settings do not change other Google Calendar users’ notification preferences. External calendar services can have different behavior. A successful personal reminder configuration should not be described as proof that every invited guest will receive the same warning at the same time. Check the final saved list.
