A secondary Google Calendar can be transferred to a new owner when responsibility changes. This is a handover of control, not merely another sharing grant. Google’s guidance says the primary calendar assigned to your account cannot be transferred through this workflow.
Confirm eligibility and recipient
Identify the secondary calendar and its current owner. Only that owner can initiate transfer. For work or school accounts, Google’s guidance requires the new owner to be in the same organization. Confirm the recipient’s exact address and responsibility before proceeding.
Initiate the handover
On a computer, open the calendar’s Settings and sharing. Under Shared with, use the intended person’s permission dropdown and choose Transfer ownership. Review and confirm the transfer rather than assuming a normal editing permission has changed ownership.
The recipient receives an email link and has sixty days to accept. The original owner remains owner until that acceptance, according to the current official guidance.
Verify the completed role change
Check the calendar’s ownership after the recipient accepts. Google’s help says the former owner’s access changes to Make changes and manage sharing. Review whether that continuing access is appropriate rather than assuming transfer removes every permission. Confirm that the new owner can maintain the schedule and that existing event history remains accessible as intended. Avoid deleting the original account before completing the handover, since account deletion affects owned calendars. A transfer request is only the start of the process; verified acceptance establishes the completed ownership change. Keep both participants informed until acceptance is confirmed.
