Write Google Slides Speaker Notes Separately from Audience Text

Speaker notes in Google Slides hold presenter-facing explanation separately from the visible slide content. They are useful for transitions, supporting details, and delivery prompts. Keep the audience’s essential message on the slide, and do not treat notes as a confidential storage area inside a shared presentation.

Write notes for the selected slide

Open the deck on a computer, select the relevant slide, and use the speaker notes area. Google’s screen-reader guidance identifies notes as a separate editable text area. Confirm the slide’s title before entering wording so notes do not end up attached to a similar-looking slide elsewhere.

Separate prompts from audience text

Use notes for what the presenter should say, not for facts the audience must see to interpret an otherwise misleading claim. Include clear transitions and checked figures. If another person will present, explain abbreviations and mark optional material explicitly.

Keep notes synchronized when a slide changes. An updated chart with an old spoken total can make a correct visual presentation sound inaccurate.

Verify delivery and sharing

Open Presenter View and inspect the notes during a rehearsal. Check that the presenter can read them without sharing the presenter window accidentally. Review the file’s audience scope separately: notes are not normally displayed in the slideshow, but collaborators with suitable access can encounter them in the presentation file. If you create a handout with notes, inspect its contents before distribution. Good notes support a complete, accurate talk while remaining appropriate for everyone who is permitted to access the underlying deck.
