A YouTube video can be inserted into a Google Slides presentation through the desktop video dialog. Use it when the clip directly supports the slide’s point and the viewing environment permits playback. An embedded video still depends on its source availability and the audience’s network or organizational restrictions.
Choose the intended clip
Open the slide on a computer and choose Insert > Video. Use the YouTube search option or the appropriate URL route to identify the video. Check its title, channel, contents, and relevant section before selecting it; similar thumbnails can lead to an unrelated clip.
Insert and configure playback
Select the video and place its frame where the audience can see it clearly. Open Format options > Video playback to review how it will start. Google’s current guidance distinguishes on-click, automatic, and manual playback behaviors.
Do not assume the default matches an older presentation. The documented current on-click behavior starts the video when you advance, while manual playback requires clicking specifically on the embedded player.
Test in the real presentation context
Run the slideshow in the intended browser and check picture, sound, and the transition back to your explanation. Test the relevant audience or managed environment rather than relying solely on your own signed-in account. Prepare a concise verbal explanation of the clip’s role in case its source becomes unavailable. Verify permission and suitability separately; the ability to insert a YouTube video does not establish that every use, audience, or redistribution of its contents is authorized.
