If Gmail will not load in a desktop browser, establish whether the problem affects Google’s service, one browser profile, or the connection. Start with comparisons that preserve your saved sessions and unsent work.
Check the scope of the failure
Consult the Google Workspace Status Dashboard for a Gmail incident, and note whether the reported time and impact match your symptom. A clear dashboard is useful evidence, but it does not rule out a local or newly developing problem.
Try another ordinary website on the same device. Then, if permitted, compare Gmail on another device or connection. If several websites fail, work on the connection first. Do not bypass a company network’s security controls to make this comparison.
Use a supported browser configuration
Update the browser and confirm that cookies and JavaScript are allowed for Gmail. Google supports current and recent versions of major browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. An old embedded browser or heavily modified profile may behave differently.
After protecting unsent work, try a clean browser profile or another supported browser. A private window can help isolate some extensions and stored settings, but its stricter cookie behavior may create a different problem. Success or failure there is a clue rather than a complete diagnosis.
Make one reversible change at a time
If the comparison points to extensions, disable the relevant extensions temporarily and test again. Record which change helps. Avoid clearing all browser data as an opening step: that can sign you out of unrelated sites and remove locally stored Gmail offline work.
If the failure persists, save the exact error, time and time zone, browser version, account type, and results of your comparisons. Send those details to your administrator or support channel. A password reset is not a general fix for a page that fails to load after authentication.
