A Gmail Android widget can show one account or label rather than the mailbox you expected. Check the widget’s source and the app installation before troubleshooting server delivery. A widget pointing to the wrong place is different from missing mail in the underlying account.
Identify the widget and account context
Open the widget’s message view and confirm the account address. Check whether you placed a Gmail message-list widget or a Gmail label shortcut. A work-profile installation can also be separate from personal Gmail.
Google’s widget guide describes these different home-screen choices. Do not assume that adding any Gmail-shaped shortcut creates the same live inbox view.
Configure or recreate only the widget
- Use an available widget configuration control if your device offers one.
- If the source cannot be changed there, remove the home-screen widget.
- Touch and hold the home screen, open Widgets, and choose the appropriate Gmail widget.
- Select the intended account and label when the setup prompts offer those choices.
Removing a widget from the home screen is not the same as removing the Google account or deleting its messages. Avoid using an account-removal command just to replace a home-screen view.
Check updates after the source is correct
Compare the selected label in the Gmail app with the widget. If the app has current mail but the widget does not refresh, check app updates, account synchronization, and relevant device restrictions.
If neither view updates, investigate the account’s synchronization instead. A hidden or empty label can also explain the display without any receiving failure.
Use a harmless new message or existing known item to verify the widget’s actual source. Menus and resizing options vary by launcher and Android version, so follow the device’s supported controls.
Do not clear all Gmail storage or grant a third-party widget broad mailbox access as an initial repair. Preserve local drafts if deeper app troubleshooting becomes necessary, and keep the working web mailbox available while isolating a home-screen-only problem.
