The Gmail mobile app can read supported non-Google email accounts without transferring the entire mailbox into your @gmail.com account. Use the listed provider’s sign-in flow when available. A combined inbox is a viewing convenience, not a merger of account ownership or storage.
Add the account through its provider
- Open the Gmail app and tap the profile picture.
- Choose Add another account.
- Select the actual provider, such as Outlook, iCloud Mail, or Yahoo, where offered.
- Complete the provider’s official authentication and required verification.
Review the requested access before approving it. A work account can require administrator permission or a managed profile. Do not enter a Google password into another provider’s login screen.
Use manual setup only with verified settings
If the provider is not listed, Google’s documented manual route uses Other and the provider’s supported IMAP settings. Obtain the hostnames, secure ports, and authentication requirements from that provider.
Do not guess an IMAP server from the address’s domain or accept a certificate warning to complete setup. Some providers require a specific authorization method or eligible app password. Those requirements belong to the source service, not automatically to Google.
Verify account separation and sending
Open the individual account, check a harmless new incoming message, and send a test to a trusted recipient. Confirm the displayed From address and reply destination.
Use All inboxes only when you want the combined view. It does not mean the other provider’s mail should appear at mail.google.com under your personal Gmail address.
Google’s current notice distinguishes direct app access from retiring Gmailify and web POP-fetching features. Do not rely on an old linked-account setup as a permanent replacement.
Before removing or reconnecting an existing account, preserve local drafts and Outbox items. Adding it successfully does not automatically migrate every contact, calendar, folder, or historical archive. Use the provider’s approved process for those separate data types and keep the original account available until the workflow is verified.
