Gmail Signature Images Are Missing or Broken: Check Image Access and Formatting

2026年10月28日 by wisechecker

A missing Gmail signature image is often an access or formatting problem rather than a failure of the surrounding text. Check where the image is hosted and who can view it before trying broad browser resets or making a private Drive folder public.

Identify the image source

Google documents three signature-image methods: a public web image URL, a public image selected from My Drive, and a device upload. A webpage address that happens to display a picture is not necessarily the direct image address the editor expects.

If the image comes from Drive, confirm that it still exists and that its sharing conditions meet the signature requirements. Google notes that deleting the image file, or a document supplying the image, can make it disappear. Your ability to view it while signed in is not proof that recipients can retrieve it.

Keep access changes narrow

Only a logo or another image approved for public distribution should be made publicly viewable. Do not expose a customer document, personal photo collection, or containing folder simply to repair a footer. Use a separate approved image or an allowed upload method instead.

For a work or school account with restricted upload choices, ask the administrator about permitted hosting. A policy restriction is not a reason to bypass the organization’s sharing controls. Recipients may also block remote images, so include essential contact information as text.

Check size and test a clean insertion

Google recommends an image approximately 70–100 pixels high and 300–400 pixels wide, and lists a maximum of 100 pixels high by 1,000 pixels wide. Resize an approved copy before uploading when appropriate.

Keep a copy of the signature wording, remove only the broken image, and try the approved image source again. Save the settings and send a non-sensitive test to a recipient account you control. If uploading alone fails, comparing another supported browser is a narrower diagnostic than deleting all browser data or weakening security protections.
