Notion AI Connectors can search information from Slack, Google Drive and GitHub, but they have different setup roles, content scopes and synchronization times. They are not interchangeable with a simple link preview or a page-embedding integration.
Plan the connection with the workspace owner and source-service administrator. Do not assume every connected feature is read-only: Notion Agent can also perform Slack actions when that capability is connected and approved.
1. Confirm eligibility, scope and a safe test
These three AI connectors require a Notion Business or Enterprise plan. Start in Settings → Notion AI, not a generic integration directory. The connector overview links to each service’s requirements.
Before authorizing, record the correct Notion workspace, external organization, approved data scope and responsible administrator. Review the permissions on the consent screen. Source permissions do not mean that no data is processed or indexed by Notion; review its security and privacy explanation for your organization’s requirements.
Pick a non-sensitive document or discussion that you can open directly. After setup and synchronization, ask a natural-language question about that item, select the intended app under All sources, and open the answer’s citation. You do not need invented commands such as /ai find in Slack. The Enterprise Search guide explains source selection.
2. Connect Slack and distinguish search from actions
The setup requires the appropriate Slack and Notion workspace owners, or the documented Slack approval flow, and a Notion workspace with more than one member. Select + next to Slack in Notion AI settings and verify the Slack workspace before authorizing selected public channels. Review whether future public channels should be included.
Members can connect their own private channels and direct messages through the supported user connection; adding a bot with an improvised slash command is not the documented universal fix. Results must follow the user’s Slack access.
The indexed connector can initially retrieve messages going back one year, with initial ingestion taking up to 36 hours. New-message indexing can take up to three hours or longer at larger volumes. Slack Connect channels are excluded from that index, but current documentation says real-time Slack search may still retrieve Slack Connect content using your own access.
Connected Agent actions can post or reply as you. Review permissions and the intended message and destination before requesting a send; do not assume a bot identity or a read-only connection. See the Slack connector guide for these distinct behaviors.
3. Connect Google Drive through the approved Workspace scope
The Drive AI connector requires a paid Google Workspace organization, a Notion workspace owner and the appropriate Google administration privileges. It is not simply a personal Google account sign-in. Start with + next to Google Drive in Notion AI settings, then follow the Google Workspace Marketplace installation flow.
The administrator should choose the approved users, groups or organizational units and review shared-drive inclusion. Missing files can result from scope choices or user permissions; do not broaden access to the whole organization merely to pass a test.
The connector supports Google Docs, Slides and Sheets plus supported uploaded files. The documented 10 MB limit applies to uploaded files. Inclusion of a spreadsheet does not mean the connector can perform reliable spreadsheet data analysis. Initial connection commonly takes about 36 hours, with larger organizations taking longer; subsequent content syncs about hourly.
Test one approved file and confirm its citation. For a file that requires a direct link, the documentation says you may need to open it once before AI search can find it. Follow the Drive-specific guide rather than changing sharing to “Anyone with the link.”
4. Connect GitHub and verify each member’s repository access
Initial setup requires a GitHub organization owner and Notion workspace owner, with more than one Notion member. Select + next to GitHub, verify the organization and authorize the approved repositories. Prefer a scoped pilot where appropriate; selecting all repositories can include future repositories too.
Each member must authenticate with GitHub for private repository content. Mapping is based on GitHub authentication, not matching email addresses. The documented connector is organization-based; do not transfer a personal repository merely to troubleshoot without considering the ownership change.
GitHub ingestion may take up to 72 hours, not the general 36-hour estimate. The connector documents one year of PRs and issues and access to code files and READMEs without that time restriction; wikis and forked repositories are unsupported. New content may take up to three hours or longer at larger volumes. See the GitHub connector guide.
Ask about a known issue or file, then open the citation in GitHub and compare it. If missing, check repository selection, the member’s authenticated account, permissions, supported content and sync state before reconnecting. Avoid repeated disconnects or expanding permissions to hide the underlying problem.
For all three services, test with a normal member as well as the administrator. A successful admin lookup does not establish that everyone has the correct access. Treat AI summaries as a starting point and verify important claims at the original source.
