Use Google’s supervision-transfer process to move a child’s account to a new supervising family. Do not delete the child’s Google Account or dissolve the current family first. The current family manager starts the transfer, and the intended new manager accepts it.
Plan the transition with the new supervisor
Confirm the child’s exact account and the new manager’s Google address privately. Check that the new person understands the parent privileges and the family benefits that may change. Giving another adult parent privileges in the same family is a different operation from transferring the child into another group.
Google limits supervision switches to once every twelve months. Check that restriction before planning a deadline-dependent move. A transfer request is not proof that the account has already changed families.
Start the official transfer
- As the current family manager, open
g.co/yourfamily. - Select the child’s account and choose Start transfer.
- Complete the requested verification with your own account.
- Confirm the new family manager’s email address and start the transfer.
The new manager follows Google’s transfer email, reviews the terms, and verifies their own account. They should not need the old manager’s password. Confirm the expected request through a known channel before acting on an unexpected transfer email.
Allow for the notification and acceptance periods
Google’s guide describes a seven-day period for the transfer notification and a seven-day window to accept after it is received. Follow the specific request status and instructions rather than assuming the entire process must finish within a few minutes.
If you need to cancel, use the official cancellation control while the request is still eligible and before acceptance. Do not repeatedly create new transfers as a way to test the waiting rules.
Verify the new arrangement before removing anything
After acceptance, confirm the child appears in the intended new family and review supervision settings and access together. Google says the child loses access to the previous family group when the transfer completes. Check shared services and device access accordingly. Keep the current group intact until the transfer is successful; deleting it beforehand can disrupt the account and is not part of this handover procedure.
