Add Another Parent to Your Google Family Group: Roles and Permissions

2026年10月28日 by wisechecker

The Google family manager can give another eligible adult parent privileges within the family group. This adds substantial control over child accounts and some purchase settings; it does not simply share storage or make that person the family manager.

Check the person and role

Google’s guide requires the person to be at least 18 and already in the family group. Confirm their full account address before granting access. A familiar display name is not sufficient if someone has several Google Accounts.

Choose parent privileges only when the person should help manage the relevant child accounts. Review the family’s responsibilities and privacy expectations first. Do not share the existing parent’s password as an alternative to assigning a separate role.

Grant the privileges through the family controls

  1. Sign in with the family manager’s account and open g.co/YourFamily.
  2. Select the intended adult family member.
  3. Choose Give parental permissions.
  4. Review and confirm the change.

Google also provides role controls in Family Link and other supported apps. Labels can vary, but the target account and permission must match. An email notification is sent when parent privileges change.

Understand the limits

Parents can use Family Link to manage supported child-account and supervised-device settings, subject to the child’s age and account history. Google Play purchase approvals apply to purchases using Google’s applicable billing system, not every transaction made through a child’s browser.

The family manager retains responsibilities such as adding or removing regular members, changing parent roles, deleting the family group, and managing the family payment method. A Google One plan manager can also be a different person; purchasing or sharing a storage plan does not automatically grant parent privileges.

Review access after a change

Have the added parent open the appropriate family controls under their own identity and check the relevant child. If the wrong person was granted access, use Remove parental permissions for that member and confirm the result. Removing a parent role is different from deleting the person’s Google Account or dissolving the family group. Keep those choices separate when family responsibilities change.
