A message saying you cannot switch Google family groups yet can reflect a membership-history restriction. It is not necessarily a broken invitation, and deleting the current family or making another account is not a dependable repair.
Identify the action and account
Check the Google Account shown in the error and whether you are joining a different family, returning to the same family, or trying to create one. These are not identical operations. Record the error wording and your known membership changes privately.
Google documents twelve-month family-switching restrictions. Its guidance also gives service-specific details, including paid family subscriptions, and distinguishes rejoining the same family. Do not assume that every restriction starts on the date of the latest invitation or that lack of a paid plan automatically guarantees immediate eligibility.
Check the product-specific rule
Review the official family help and the particular service involved, such as Google One or YouTube. A family membership and access to a particular paid benefit can have separate requirements. The displayed restriction should be resolved using the account’s actual situation, not a general waiting-period estimate from another person’s account.
If the history is unclear or you believe the restriction is incorrect, use the relevant Google support route with the account and non-sensitive error details. Avoid promises that support must waive the rule or that changing a setting will reset the timer.
Protect access while deciding what to do
Before leaving any current group, check shared storage, Family Library content, subscriptions, and supervised-child arrangements. Family managers and supervised members do not have the same leave options as an ordinary adult member.
Google warns that deleting a family group is irreversible and can itself affect creating or joining another group. Do not use deletion as a test. If a child needs to move, use the supported supervision-transfer process and its separate conditions.
Use the supported next step
Keep the account and existing benefits stable while you confirm eligibility or wait as directed. Ask the manager for a fresh invitation if the original later expires. Do not change country information or use an unrelated identity to evade a membership restriction; that can introduce further billing and access problems without preserving the original account’s data.
