How to Set Up Google’s Inactive Account Manager for Trusted Contacts

2026年10月28日 by wisechecker

Inactive Account Manager lets you plan what Google should do after a chosen period of account inactivity. You can arrange notifications, selected data sharing, and the available deletion choice without giving a trusted person your password or immediate access to the account.

Choose the purpose before configuring the plan

Decide whether a contact should only receive a notification or also receive selected information. Consider the private information belonging to other people in your mailbox and files. A trusted contact does not necessarily need every data category.

Open myaccount.google.com/inactive in the intended account. Review the waiting period and available contact and notification settings. Keep your own reachable contact information accurate so you can receive any warnings or verification requests associated with the plan.

Select recipients and data deliberately

  1. Choose the inactivity period offered in the setup.
  2. Add the people you actually want to notify.
  3. For each person, decide whether to share data and which available categories to include.
  4. Provide the requested contact-verification details accurately.
  5. Review any account-deletion choice and complete the plan only when the summary matches your intention.

Google permits up to ten contacts and different selections for different people, but not every kind of information can be shared. A contact phone number can be used to verify that the intended person downloads the data. Confirm the information with the contact privately rather than guessing it.

Understand when the plan takes effect

The plan is triggered by the inactivity period and Google’s activity signals, not by a relative pressing a button or simply reporting that you died. The guide says contacts are not notified during setup. Tell them separately that you have made a plan if that is important to you.

Review the plan after a relationship or contact-detail change. You can edit or turn it off through the same official settings. This is separate from Google’s general inactive-account deletion policy and does not guarantee indefinite retention. It also does not make the contact the owner of every third-party account you sign into with Google or provide them with your login credentials.
