Linked Google Services Under the DMA: Understand the Regional Privacy Controls

2026年10月29日 by wisechecker

Google’s Linked Google services setting provides regional choices about data sharing between certain Google services under the EU Digital Markets Act. It is different from connecting a third-party app with Sign in with Google, and it is not a worldwide setting every account is guaranteed to have.

Find the regional account control

For an eligible account where the setting is available, open Google Account Data & privacy. Under Data sharing, select Linked Google services. Review the listed services, select your choices, continue, and confirm them.

Google’s guidance lists services including Search, YouTube, ad services, Google Play, Chrome, Shopping, and Maps. Use the list and explanations displayed in your own account; regional details and available choices can differ. Do not change your country or payments profile merely to make a privacy option appear.

Understand the effect on features

Unlinking an eligible service limits certain uses of personal data across services. Some experiences that depend on that sharing can become less personalized or unavailable. Google gives the example of saving places from Search when Search and Maps are not linked.

This choice does not sign you out of the services, delete their accounts, or automatically erase their existing data. It also does not replace Web & App Activity, other history controls, or ad preferences. Review those settings separately if your goal includes changing saved history or advertising personalization.

Recognize the limits of unlinking

Google says data can still be shared for purposes such as preventing fraud, combating spam and abuse, and complying with law. Some services are linked by default, with regional exceptions and details explained in the account’s official guidance. Avoid describing the setting as a complete barrier to every exchange of information.

After confirming, return to Linked Google services to inspect the saved choices. If a cross-service feature changes, compare its requirements with those choices before re-linking everything. For a problem involving an outside app’s access to Gmail or Drive, use the third-party connections page instead. The two controls address different relationships, even though both use the word “linked.”
