Google lets you control visibility for some profile information, but there is no single switch that makes every identity detail invisible across every product. Review the field, audience, and service involved.
Review About me
- Open the intended Google Account.
- Select Personal info.
- Under the section for choosing what others see, open About me.
- Inspect each relevant item and its audience.
- Change visibility where an option is offered and save.
Google’s guide describes options such as Only you and Anyone, with other audiences depending on the account and service. Do not assume every field offers every audience.
Understand the visible identity
People who interact with you through Google services can see basic identity information such as your name and profile picture. Your account email can also appear in sharing or communication contexts.
Hiding a birthday or phone number does not hide the sender address on an email or rewrite information somebody already saved in their contacts.
Review service-specific profiles
Under Personal info, Google’s Your profiles area can lead to profiles in particular services. Visit the relevant service to review its own identity and visibility controls.
A YouTube channel name or picture, for example, can be separate from the main Google profile. Do not assume one profile edit updates every public identity.
Check profile discovery separately
Where available, profile discovery affects what people who have your contact information can find before interacting with you. Google’s guide identifies separate settings for the displayed name and picture and notes that this feature is not available to Education users.
Discovery controls do not replace the visibility rules after communication or sharing. Read the explanation for your account rather than treating them as an anonymity guarantee.
Verify the intended audience
Check the saved settings and the relevant product. Do not delete accurate account information simply because you want it less visible; some information, including the account’s name and birthday, can be edited but not removed entirely.
For a managed identity, organization rules can affect the controls. Ask the administrator when a setting is locked or when work-directory visibility is the concern.
