Sign in with Google can create a new app account when no matching supported relationship exists. If it opens an empty profile instead of your existing data, stop and identify how the original account was created.
Check the Google identity first
Compare the full Google address with the identity you previously used. Similar names, address variations, or several signed-in Google accounts can lead to a different selection.
Inspect the app’s account details too. A new-user screen, empty workspace, or missing subscription can indicate a separate profile rather than lost data.
Try the original supported sign-in
If you previously used an email-and-password login, employer SSO, Apple, or another provider, return to that method. Do not assume the app automatically merges sign-ins because the contact email looks the same.
Google’s troubleshooting guide explicitly says that some apps do not support different sign-in methods for the same account. The provider controls that mapping.
Ask about linking instead of creating more profiles
- Preserve access to the original account if it still works.
- Look for the provider’s documented linked-login settings.
- Check whether Google can be added to that existing profile.
- If unclear, contact the provider before making further account changes.
Do not remove the old Google link, delete the original account, or subscribe again simply to make the new profile usable. Those actions can complicate data ownership and billing without restoring the original relationship.
Verify more than the login screen
After a supported repair, check your existing files, workspace membership, purchases, and subscription. A successful authentication response only proves that the sign-in completed; it does not establish that the provider selected the intended customer account.
If an unwanted new profile must be closed, follow the provider’s deletion process after confirming the original account is safe. Unlinking Google and deleting the app profile are different operations.
Provide useful support details
Give the original sign-in method, the affected account addresses, and the observed result through a private support channel. Never send passwords, one-time codes, or complete redirect URLs that may carry authentication information.
