How to View and Share Contact Details in New Outlook

While the dedicated business card view is gone, you can still access all contact information and share it using the vCard format. Follow these steps to view contact details and create a sharable business card file.

  1. Open the People page
    In the new Outlook, click the People icon in the left navigation bar. This opens your contact list.
  2. Select a contact
    Click any contact in the list. The detail panel opens on the right side of the window. It displays the contact photo, full name, job title, company, email addresses, phone numbers, and physical address if available.
  3. Export the contact as a vCard
    At the top of the detail panel, click the More actions button (three dots). Select Export from the menu. Outlook creates a .vcf file and prompts you to save it to your computer or open it with another app.
  4. Share the vCard via email
    Create a new email message. Drag the .vcf file from your desktop into the message body. Alternatively, click Attach File and select the .vcf file. The recipient can open the attachment to add the contact to their own address book.

If You Still Need the Full Business Card View

If your workflow depends on the visual business card view for printing or scanning through contacts quickly, the only reliable option is to switch back to classic Outlook for Windows. Microsoft continues to support classic Outlook alongside the new Outlook for organizations that are not ready to transition.

New Outlook Shows Contact List Instead of Cards

The People page in new Outlook defaults to a list view with columns for Name, Email, and Phone. You can switch to a grid view by clicking the View options button at the top of the contact list and selecting Grid. The grid shows contact photos and names but does not display job titles, companies, or other fields in the grid cells. To see those details, you must click the contact to open the detail panel.

This is a significant limitation for users who previously scanned business cards visually to find a person by company or job title.

How to Switch Back to Classic Outlook

If you are currently using the new Outlook and want to revert to classic Outlook, follow these steps:

  1. Open Outlook settings
    Click File in the top-left corner, then click Options.
  2. Turn off the new Outlook toggle
    In the General tab, find the section labeled New Outlook. Uncheck the box that says Use the new Outlook. Click OK. Outlook restarts in classic mode.
  3. Access business card view
    In classic Outlook, click the Contacts folder. On the View tab, click Change View and select Business Card. You now see all contacts as virtual business cards.

Microsoft has stated that classic Outlook will be supported until at least 2029, giving organizations ample time to adapt.

Printing Contact Details Without Business Card View

If you need to print contact information for a directory or event, use the Print command from the People page. Select one or more contacts, click the More actions button, and choose Print. The printed output uses a simple list format rather than card layout. For card-style printing, you must use classic Outlook or export contacts to Excel and use a template.
