Use Picture-in-Picture to Follow Google Meet While Working Elsewhere

Google Meet picture-in-picture keeps a small movable meeting window visible while you work in another tab or application. Google documents this feature for Chrome on a computer. It can help with notes or audience awareness, but the smaller interface does not expose every meeting function.

Open and position the small window

During the meeting, select More options and Open picture-in-picture. Drag the top of the small meeting window to move it and drag an edge to resize it. Keep other applications in normal windowed views; Google’s guidance warns that maximizing another window or application can hide picture-in-picture.

Choose automatic behavior when useful

For automatic activation, inspect Chrome’s site-information control for Automatic picture-in-picture permission. Meet’s Settings, General options then let you choose when it should appear, such as switching tabs or sharing a window or entire screen. Read the current selection rather than assuming automatic behavior is enabled merely because manual picture-in-picture works.

Return for the controls you need

The small interface supports microphone and camera controls, hand raising, chat, captions, and leaving the call. You cannot start a presentation from picture-in-picture; start sharing in the main meeting first. For other features or notifications, including breakout-room notifications, return to the full meeting. Use Back to tab at the small window’s top right to return while staying connected. Hang up ends your participation instead. Verify the microphone and camera states after moving between views, especially when taking notes in another application. Picture-in-picture helps keep the meeting visible, but it does not make content on a separately shared screen private.
