Google Meet On-the-Go mode provides a simplified mobile meeting experience with large controls and no ordinary incoming or outgoing video. Use it only when your surroundings allow safe participation. The feature can reduce visual demands, but it does not make operating a phone appropriate while driving or doing another attention-sensitive task.
Enter the mode when it is offered
Google says Meet can detect motion and suggest On-the-Go mode. Tap Go in that prompt if the mode suits your situation. You can also enter manually during a mobile meeting through More controls and On-the-Go. If the control is unavailable, do not assume that every meeting platform or calling experience provides it.
Understand the reduced meeting view
The mode turns off your camera and does not let you send or receive ordinary video. Google describes larger Mute, Raise hand, Audio, and end-call controls, along with lower data use. An optional Show Presentation control can display shared material when appropriate. Choose the audio source deliberately and check that you can follow the discussion without needing constant visual attention.
Exit and review the camera state
To leave the mode, use Turn off On-the-Go on the top banner. Google says the camera remains off by default after exiting; turn it on only after checking the surroundings. The app’s automatic-suggestion setting is separate from manually entering or leaving the mode and can appear under Meeting settings or General depending on the account. If a presentation becomes essential while you cannot safely view it, ask for a pause or arrange later review instead of assuming audio alone communicates every visual instruction.
