You updated your bio in Threads, but when someone views your public profile preview — for example, in a search result or a link preview — the old bio still appears. Threads generates a public profile preview whenever someone shares your profile link. This preview includes your profile picture, display name, bio, and follower count. The preview is not generated live each time. Instead, it is cached — stored temporarily — by Threads servers, your device, and third-party services like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, or Twitter.

When you edit your bio, the change is saved to your profile instantly on the Threads server. However, the cached preview does not update automatically. The old bio remains in the preview until the cache expires or is manually cleared. Caches on third-party platforms may persist for hours or even days.

The root cause is the caching mechanism used by Threads and external services to reduce server load and speed up loading times. The preview is a static snapshot taken at the time the link was first shared. Until that snapshot is replaced, your updated bio will not show in the preview.

Steps to Force the Updated Bio to Appear in the Profile Preview

Use these methods in order. Start with the simplest fix and move to the next if the preview still shows the old bio.

Method 1: Clear the Threads App Cache

1. Open your phone settings
   On iPhone, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. On Android, go to Settings > Apps.
2. Find Threads in the app list
   Scroll down or search for Threads. Tap the app name.
3. Clear the cache
   On iPhone, tap Offload App, then reinstall Threads from the App Store. On Android, tap Storage & Cache, then tap Clear Cache. Do not tap Clear Storage, as that will delete your login data.
4. Open Threads and check your profile
   Log in if needed. Tap your profile icon at the bottom right. Ask a friend to view your profile preview using the share link to confirm the bio is updated.

Method 2: Force Close and Reopen Threads

1. Close the Threads app completely
   On iPhone, swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause. Swipe up on the Threads card to close it. On Android, tap the Recent Apps button and swipe Threads away.
2. Wait 30 seconds
   This allows the system to clear temporary memory related to the app.
3. Reopen Threads
   Tap the Threads icon. The app will fetch fresh data from the server, including your updated bio.
4. Verify the preview
   Copy your profile link by tapping the share icon on your profile and selecting Copy Link. Paste the link into a note app and tap it to see the preview. If the bio is still old, proceed to Method 3.

Method 3: Share Your Profile Link Again

1. Copy your current Threads profile link
   In Threads, tap your profile icon, then tap the share icon (paper airplane). Tap Copy Link.
2. Delete any old posts or messages that contain your old Threads link
   If you shared your profile link on other platforms, delete those posts. This prevents people from clicking the old cached preview.
3. Share the new link on the same platform

Third-party services cache previews for up to 24 hours

Facebook, Twitter, and messaging apps store link previews in their own caches. These caches are not controlled by Threads. Even after you clear the Threads cache and force close the app, the preview on a third-party platform may remain unchanged for up to 24 hours. To force an immediate refresh on Facebook, use the Facebook Sharing Debugger tool. Paste your Threads profile link into the debugger and click Debug. Then click Scrape Again to force Facebook to re-fetch the preview.

Threads server cache may take up to an hour to refresh

Threads itself caches profile previews on its servers to reduce load. This server cache refreshes automatically, but not instantly. If you have cleared your app cache, force closed the app, and shared a new link, but the preview still shows the old bio, wait 60 minutes. After that time, the server cache should have expired and the new bio will appear.

Your bio edit may not have saved correctly

Open Threads and tap your profile icon. Tap Edit Profile. Check that your new bio is displayed in the bio text field. If the old bio shows there, the edit did not save. Tap Save at the top right to save the change again. Then repeat the steps in Method 1 and Method 2.
