Take notes for me in Google Meet can be started and stopped during an eligible call. Check the audience and language before starting, because the resulting document may be sent to invited guests beyond those currently speaking. A visible pencil indicator signals note-taking to participants.
Review settings before starting
On a computer, join the meeting and click Take notes for me at the top right. Open Settings to review Meeting language and, as a host or co-host, Send notes to. Choose the agreed recipient group. Review any offered screenshot or note-section options rather than assuming everyone has the same customization features. Some settings depend on rollout or beta availability.
Start and confirm the visible status
Click Start taking notes. Tell participants that the feature is in use, and check the pencil indicator and notification. Follow any consent prompt required by the administrator. With host controls enabled, the host and co-hosts operate the feature; otherwise eligible internal participants can start or stop notes. Also review the option to keep notes enabled for future instances of the meeting, which Google says can be preselected for hosts.
Stop before the intended boundary
Use the note-taking control to stop when the agreed capture segment ends, and verify the status before continuing a sensitive discussion. Video recording and transcription have separate controls, so check them individually if they are active. Restart notes only when the group intends capture to resume. After the meeting, inspect the generated document in the organizer’s Drive or use the emailed link. Review its content and permissions before treating suggested next steps as confirmed assignments. Stopping capture prevents later discussion from being summarized by that feature; it does not retract content or access already created.
